NTR: Unemployment for Grant-Based Workers?

The company I work for funds me as an employee through a grant they  received that runs out on December 31. I am having a hard time finding something else. Is anyone familiar with unemployment enough to know if I might qualify for unemployment in January? I would not be fired or quiting the job, just not "renewed" (so to speak) as the grant is coming to a close. TIA

  • Wouldn't you be laid off?  I'd imagine if you're laid off then you would qualify...but I don't know much about unemployment.

I am in a similar situation though.  My funding runs out at the end of March.  I've been in this situation before but before I looked into UE I found another job.

    GL!

  • I'm pretty sure.  I would check with your local UI office also I would let your boss/HR person know you will be applying because they will send a form to your employer to verify you no longer have the position.
  • Yes, you would qualify.? As long as you worked there the requisite amount of time and lost employment through no fault of your own, you qualify.? It is equivalent to a layoff.? Sorry to hear that.? Good luck, though!
