Multiples

ouch. a vent.

1.)  My back is killing me.  I think it's time to start sleeping in the guest room so I can have a bed all to myself.  I haven't been able to sleep with any extra pillows with MH in the bed because there just isn't enough room.  Or maybe I should try the reclining couch?  It reclines flat, which is nice.

2.)  It feels like someone is ripping my legs out of my hip socket.  WTF is that all about?  I am guessing this is my body stretching?

I have to admit that I am really worried about how I am going to survive the next 11 or 12 weeks.  I am assuming it just gets worse.  I feel like such a baby for complaining at 25 weeks, but man, it's hard carrying multiples.  Some days are worse than others it seems.

How did you manage the pain in your third trimester?  Tylenol?  Heating pads?  Just sucking it up?  Wink

  • Oh man, I'm nowhere near the third trimester and I already need the heating pad for my back!
  • Loading the player...
  • i haven't had it too bad yet, but when my back hurts heating pads have helped a lot. GL.

  • I am really kicking myself in the butt for not being in better shape before getting pregnant.  I bet I would be able to handle this better if that were the case.

  • dh rubbed my legs/sciatica (my butt!) nightly... before sleep, and in the middle of the night.  i know, it's not fun... i wanted an epsom salts bath SO badly, and when i finally got in the tub one night (with dh's assistance), the water didn't even come close to covering me ;)  if you have a big tub, ask your ob if that would be ok.

as you said i found things kind of got worse, then eased up a bit, then worse again.  so you might have some not-so-bad times ahead.  good luck!

  • I know.  It is bad.  I try to take a bath before bed so that I am relaxed and I load up on the pillows and have one between my legs.  But I toss from one side to the next all night.  I literally wake up every hour or so to pee and then switch sides.  It is then that I realize how bad my hips on the side I was laying on hurt.  Not fun!  I have also started to get these cramps at times on my side right where my leg beds in (hip area).  Heat on my back helps and at times I take tylenol.  When I was in the hospital they gave me percocet and I hate to take it, but some nights like last night my back was hurting so bad that I took it.  I still didn't sleep well.  I have also slept one night in the recliner.  It is not easy.  GL!!!
  • I'm sorry you feel so crummy. i'm in the same boat here. I sleep wit ha heat pack between my legs, a large pillow between my knees, I take a hot bath every night - these thing seem to help.

A BIG help was purchasing a pregnancy cradle (prenatal cradle) it was $40, i've been using 2 days and I already see a difference in my pain and energy levels.

    ?

I hope you feel better soon!?

  • Ugh, everyday is a matter of "sucking it up"!!  I'm constantly up and down grabbing whatever my kids need, making breakfast and lunch, changing diapers, up and down stairs for naps, driving to preschool, etc.  I can barely walk because of the pelvic/hip pain but there's not much I can do!

You're right, some days are worse than others. Today was just one of those days, I cried 2 or 3 times, and I wish I could have escaped to some tropical island Wink

  • I need to start taking baths, I think.  My Peri thinks they are a great idea, along with a heating pad and massages from MH.  Maybe it's time to get all those going.  :)

  • Just wait until you cant sleep in a bed at all. I slept on the couch (because I couldnt lay down and breath at the same time) for 10 weeks. lol

I have a feeling this day is coming soon, sadly.  I just didn't realize it would all start happening so "soon"!

  • Sorry Kim. It really can be tough. Heating pads definitely helped me, as did baths (until I was too big to get in and out of the tub!) I had pillows with me everywhere I went to support my back. I would definitely take over the guest room if you think it will help!
  • You guys.  OMG.  I set up a fortress of pillows in bed last night and had one on each side of me and two under my head/neck and I slept SO well.  I felt like I was cradled all night between them.  My back isn't killing me today (yet).  I think that was a big problem before... I was only using one pillow under my head and that's it.

We'll see if the leg ripping out of the socket continues today, but I am sure that's just stretching.  After all, I found my first stretch mark this week on my left hip.  :(

  • Kim  - I'm just kind of sucking it up at this point.  The thought of a baths that aren't steaming hot doesn't appeal to me.  I do take Tylenol PM a few times a week for the pain/to help me sleep and both OB and peri are fine with that.  I'm on modified bedrest and getting up to do most anything is at least a bit painful now.

Just an FYI - I recently developed carpal tunnel due to edema and while it's not painful, it has maade picking things up a bit uncomfortable.

  • I have nights where I sleep on the recliner or couch so I can get more support for my back. Can't wait to get even more uncomfortable!!!

  • I had the leg feeling - and it was from sleeping w/ pillows between my legs that where actually too large!  I was stretching out my tendons all night.  Smaller pillows = less socket pain.

A tempurpedic mattress pad may help the hip pain.  You can just buy it for your chair / couch / side of bed for about $80 at Wal-mart.  Get at least 4" & I am bringing one for my hospital bed as well when I am on 8 wks bedest starting in Jan.

  • I feel your pain, I went through the same thing.  In between when you finally fall asleep you then wake up having to go pee.

I went through a lot of tylenol.  I used a heating pad and would take either a really hot shower or a warm bath.

My doctor even told me when it got really bad to try taking some tylenol pm, which I did.  I didn't do it nightly - but would do it a couple of times a week.

I didn't really get the hip pain so much - but I had lighting crotch - my toes would curl it hurt so bad.

I also have a bad back and I would lay on the floor and put my legs up on the couch to help strech out my back muscles.  I normally only did this when DH was home because sometimes I couldn't get up by myself.

  • I have the hip and groin pain. It is a result of your body producing relaxin and progesterone, hormones that relax all the muscles and ligaments in your body. It causes your hips to shift out of alignment. For me..... I have fibromyalgia, and the relaxed muscles have been miraculous for my neck and shoulder area. But they are horrible on my hip area. When each hip cramps at night I have to flip which is excruciating on the groin pain. Last night my hips actually seperated (both of my girls heads are in my pelvis now!) it was a horrible night. You will get through it. I did take tylenol PM a few times to make it through the night, unitl I went for an US one morning after taking it and my girls were very sluggish and had low heart rates. It has been approved by my OB since day one though.
