I am sure there is something I could do...

DD has been having a fit for the last hour and 10 minutes.  It started because she wanted to go in the baby swing at the park and it was wet and she is 3.5 years old and there where babies there.  It has been escalating ever sense without a pause.  She is in her room screaming now.  What she wants with her screaming has changed many times and she wet her pants at one point.  I mostly just ignore it as much as I can and tell her that when she can talk normally, we can talk.

Please tell me she will learn to calm herself down eventually?

  • Do you think she might be hungry? I know that comes out of left field, but my kids get nutty when they are hungry and something doesn't go their way. They seem much better after eating.
  • She is tired.  I tried feeding her, but she is too upset.  She has finally calmed down and is sitting in her bean bag chair.  Hopefully, I can get a smoothie down her and get her into bed in the next hour.  I feel bad for her, but she really needs to learn to cope better.  I have tried teaching her deep breathing, stretching, suggesting things she could say to help her calm down.  She just gets so overwrought.

  • I'm sorry. We've had meltdowns like that. could it be something is brewing (getting sick?)
  • When DS gets nutsy, a bubble bath almost always helps.
