Close Call!

So I haven't thrown up throughout my pregnancy, and today I've been particularly queasy but it's been manageable so far...

I just had a patient in the chair and he started moaning while I was anesthetizing his tooth.  Then he kept moaning long after the needle was out of his mouth.  I sat him up and asked him if he was ok, and he said "I don't do well with needles" (men are such babies!)... He then asked where he should throw up.  I shoved the trash can into his arms and ran out of the room... if HE threw up, I knew I'd lose it. I got him a cup of water and a glucose gel to get his blood sugar up, then I (very unprofessionally) waited in the doorway til he felt better.

Thankfully after 5 minutes of sitting with his face in front of the air conditioner at full blast, he felt well enough to finish the filling and get the hell out of my office.  Phew!!!  This man is now on my "do not schedule" for the rest of the pregnancy. Smile

Re: Close Call!

  • Are you kidding me? What a baby! I wonder what he would be like in labor. LOL. Sorry you had to deal with this.

  • Maybe I'm mean but I think it's hilarious when people wuss out at needles the size of a hair...especially grown men.  Grow a pair!

  • The ironic part is that the patients who are the most afraid of needles are always the men, most of whom have tattoos!  Last I checked tattoos are the results of VOLUNTARILY getting a needle stuck into your skin multiple times.  Men suck. Smile
