Anyone use powder detergent in an HE washer?

I just bought some BG detergent. I assumed it would be liquid but its powder. How do I use this?  My machine has (liquid) slots for prewash, wash, softener and bleech.  Has anyone used this detergent specifically?  Or any detergent advice will work. TIA

  • We just add water to it to dissolve and put it in the regular liquid detergent area.

  • I have BG too and was not sure. But I just put the powder as is in the main wash slot and it's fine. It dissolves no problem.
  • Our tray has a piece that can slide up and down, making the gap bigger for powder. It's really hard to describe, obviously.

  • I just put it in the tub with the clothes.
  • hmmm...so many different ways to do it.  I guess it will be okay either way.

For those that use the BG: It says use one scoop for HE machines. If prepping CD for the first time, would you use one scoop each time you wash? I was planning on washing 5 times... Will that be adequate?

  • Mine never said it was only for liquid and the compartment can easily accomodate powder so I never assumed it would be a problem?  Same is true for my mom's and my MIL's HE/FL machines.  I use Country Save on diapers and Crunchy Clean on the rest of the laundry and just put it in the detergent spot!

Ditto this and my clothes and diapers have been getting clean so I guess it works!

The only way that I can see potentially being a problem is putting it directly in the wash bin, like you would a regular top-loading washer.  My HE/FL directions say specifically NOT to do this.

What CD's are you prepping?  If you're prepping BG diapers, or a lot of different pockets, AIOs, etc. you only need to wash once (with detergent).  If you're doing a natural fiber fitted or prefold or flat, you'll need to wash 3+ times (and dry at least after every 2 washes).  I used half the amount of recommended detergent each time.

  • Our tray has a slot for the main wash and an insert that you put into it to use liquid, or take out to use powder.. we just took it out and dump the powder in there. No problems so far. Sometimes on a big load if I use the max amount of powder and cold water it can leave a little residue in there but normally (like 99% of the time)  there's nothing.
  • I use Nellie's powder (which, granted, is a much smaller amount than, say Tide) in my HE machine in the regular detergent slot. Haven't had ANY residue in there. Only thing that goes in the main clothes tub is oxyclean (as per the directions), though that's only with my regular clothes.
  • Well now I need to check my dirctions, I don't remeber it saying anything about putting the detergent in the tub.
