Hey Ladies,
We're working on an article about some of the best and worst baby names of 2009, and wanted to include some Bumpie opinions.
So what names have you heard people name their babies this year (either real couples or celeb couples) that you either loved or thought was a little crazy?
TIA for your feedback!
Kaitlin
Re: Best and worst baby names of 09?
I'm going to nominate any name with "aiden," "aden," "ayden," or any variation thereof. There are way too many kids running around with names ending in those sounds.
I'd also like to nominate any trendy name that the parents decide to misspell in order to make it "more unique." If you name your daughter Maddyson instead of Madison, you're not being unique -- you're just condemning your daughter to a lifetime of having her name misspelled.
Really obvious boy names for girls: Michael, Ryan,
Normal names spelled with a double e: Natalee, Kaylee,
Going off the "ee" thing, personally I think Keegan and Teegan are 2 of the worst little girl names I have heard in a long time. I'm sure I will get flamed for that.

I try not to use the word "hate" around here...but I truly hate these two!
I think the best names are the more traditional names that are making a comeback (Henry, William, James, Charlotte, Amelia, etc.).
I dislike anything ending in -aden (or any variation of that sound) or any name that uses too many "y"s to replace "i"s.
Can I nominate Benjamin and Eli as two of the best
??
Worst = Neveah
Best = The two girl names we're debating on

I second the Aiden, Caden, Jayden trend.
I'm also enjoying the return of more "classic" names, like Sophia, Olivia, Lily, Jack, etc. They're all a bit musical, yet solid and dependable sounding.
Just my 2 cents
Worst: Braelyn, Brayden, Cadence
Best: Henry, Madeline, Ava
Of the names I've seen on here, I think Shooter is one of the worst. I also can't stand Brielle, Garrison or Remington for a girl and any of the -en names (Caden, Braden, Aiden, etc).

Not sure where to go from here.
Just my opinion ...
Best: Classic names like Caroline, Henry, etc.
Worst: Any spelling of Madeline, Madison, Addison, etc. They are just too trendy.
I'm also not a fan of Aiden, Caden, etc.
Worst- DITTO the Aiden/Caden/Jayden/Brayden madness. ?MAKE IT STOP! ?For girls, Nevaeh wins my vote, but any form of Maddy is right up there.
Best- classic "old people" names.
(read it. you know you want to.)
anderson . september 2008
vivian . february 2010
mabel . august 2012
Worst: SO over Aiden, Cayden, Brayden, Jaydon, Maddie, Sophie, Addison (SO overpopular), Emerson, Neveah, Emmaline....
Best: Everett, Caleb, Eden, Natalie, Maren, Stella, Naomi
I also love the classic names--except the ones that are overdone like Madeline, Sophia and Isabella.
Lydia, Charlotte, Lilah, Evelyn are all adorable.
I also like classic boys names but sometimes like a little variation--example, I like Bennett better than Benjamin.
One name I have heard a few times lately that is new to me is Kenley and I love it --think it is a cute and sassy girl's name.
Two of my favorite names for girls are Sloane and Maren.
I also like some of the Irish names that seem to be growing in popularity-Maeve and Norah are 2 that come to mind for girls-Declan for boys.
In general, I really dislike verbs and nouns for names-River, Chase, Phoenix, Story,etc....
And as most PPs have said, changing the spelling or adding a Y does not make a name unique and is really annoying!
Best: The "nursing home names" - older names on the comeback. (Eg: at my daughter Katherine's baptism the two other babies being baptized were Elizabeth and Henry. I thought it was nice that all three of us had traditional, normally spelled, timeless names for our babies).
Worst: The fact that many strong male names are now becoming unisex or even feminine. Eg: Ryan, Austin, Addison, Riley, Avery. Emerson, etc... I just wonder if there will be any boys names left if we are lucky enough to have a son!
Worst
Boy: Jayden
Girl: any of the Maddy names, anything ending in -son, Allison if the only exception
Best:
Boy: Cole
Girl: Anorah
, Nora, classic names

Best: Charlotte, Claire, Henry, Jack, etc..
Worst: Surname trend (Carter, Hudson, Anderson, Madison, etc) It just seems really random if they aren't family names
Yes, I'd like to add this to my previous nomination for the worst naming trends. This is also awful. There are so many male names that have been "stolen" and are now turning into female names! It's sad. I wonder whether there will be any male names left if we have a son. I also wonder why parents think that strong masculine names sound cute for girls.
Sparrow is the absolute worst name I've heard this year.
Best: Love the classic names coming back (Elizabeth, Jack, Henry, Charlotte, Josephine)
Heather
I like Sparrow.
I'm tired of the Aidens, etc, but they were popular for a reason. They USED to be unusual. Who ever knew an Aiden before 2000? Aiden/Aidan Quinn was the only one I'd heard of.
Samantha Skye - Aug 30, 2006 AND Maxwell Griffin - April 14, 2009
Worst:
1. Aiden/anything ending in -Aden or -Ayden.
2. Names I consider to be dog names being used for girls: Riley (any spelling) and Bailey (any spelling) are two of the biggest offenders.
3. Addison, Madison, Madelyn, and wth is Neveah?
4. ANY NAME WITH AN UNUSUAL SPELLING TO MAKE IS SEEM UNIQUE! THIS JUST LOOKS LIKE UNEDUCATED PEOPLE ARE PROCREATING.
Best: Classic names and family names with meaning.
