Baby Names

Help with a few ideas for a girl name...

I have a one syllable last name and I really didn't want to go with a one syllable first name, but we kind of like the name Eve.  Is this a stupid thing to think about (with the syllables I mean).  Maybe if I put 2 middle names with Eve, it would be better.  I feel like I'm being stupid about the syllable thing.  LOL!

Also, we were also thinking about the name India!  I like it a lot.  I think she would be India Rose.  Let me know what you think!

  • I wouldn't worry about syllables. DD's FN, MN, and LN all have 2 syllables. I thought it sounded nice.

  • I don't think adding an extra middle name will change anything since most people will just say her first + last name.  I would just make sure the FN + LN sounds good together, and not think about the middle name.  You could always use Eva as well.

  • yeah I was just thinking 2 one syllable names would be too short.

  • I think the one syllable first and last name is fine.

Eve Smith, Eve Scott, Eve Lane...all sounds fine to me!

I like Eve more than India.

  • I think it's fine - I wouldn't worry about the syllable situation.

Also, I love Eve - beautiful, elegant name and I much prefer it to India.

  • We have a one syllable last name as well and that is also one of our rules...no one syllable first name...even though I do like a few names that that means are out.  DH's name is one syllable and he never liked the way that sounded...too short and blunt...

  • I prefer Eve to India as well.  Beautiful name.

Us too. It just doesn't sound as good as a first name with more than 1 syllable.

  • I like Eve better than India and I think if a name flows off your toungue smoothly and you LOVE it go for it.

  • I like both names, but as far as syllables go I really think it's just going to depend on the last name. Smith or Scott or something like that would be ok. Have you considered a name that Eve could be a nn for? Evelyn?
  • I think it depends on the name. Some one syllable FN-LN combos sound too choppy, while others sound just fine. i.e. John Smith, Garth Brooks, Brad Pitt, Faith Hill, Jude Law).

  • The only time that I would worry about syllables is if your last name had a bunch, you probably wouldn't want a first name with a lot too.  India is NMS

  • I wouldn't worry too much about syllables. I can think of lots of one syllable names that sound fine together.

I like India! It's unique! I've heard of an Asia too and like that as well :)
