question re: circumcision care

good morning ladies! i have a quick question,, my hospital instructed me to use these sterile gauze pads with petroleum jelly on them to place over the circumcision but i ran out of those pads, do you think that just using a really soft paper towel would be okay or do you think it needs to be in the sterile packaging? TIA Smile

Re: question re: circumcision care

  • It doesn't need to be sterile... but I wouldn't use a paper towel either.  Have your husband pick up some gauze form the drugstore.

  • We never used gauze at all...just dropped a big dollup of petroleum jelly on the tip and closed the diaper. I don't think it's necessary

  • Toilet paper would be softer.

  • Go with gauze or just petroleum jelly. FYI...in a week or so once it's less sensitive, you should make sure the skin pulls back (gently) at bathtime and apply jelly after baths to keep the skin from regrowing. We had no clue and ours grew back a little and now we have to be vigilant about peeling it back.
Um, yeah. The Bump be too crazy for pics of my kid.
  • We didn't have to do that.  We just put a HUGE glob of vaseline on it.  We used the squirt bottles and went around the penis like a soft serve ice cream.
  • we just used the petrolluem as well

This! We just made sure it was covered with a huge clump of vasoline. Didn't have a problem with healing!

this but we used bacitracin instead of vaseline. The gauze is just going to move off of there anyway and the diaper acts like a cloth . I would put one glob right on the tip and then when you close the diaper it will smoosh it around on there. His healed very nicely and very quickly.
