A few honey nut cheerios enough to see a nut allergy?

DS had a few, maybe 5, honey nut cheerios this morning with no apparent reaction.  Is that enough to assume he's not allergic to nuts, or would he have to eat something with more nuts, like peanut butter, to be able to tell?

  • I think the actual nut amount in HNC is miniscule. I think they need peanut butter or something else to show that effect, but I could be wrong.

  • I think if he had a very severe allergy that would be enough.  But I really think to see an allergy in most kids, he'd need something like peanut butter or something like that.  Also, some kids don't have a reaction the very first time to an allergen, so one time isn't really enough to tell either way.
  • I doubt it. And HNC have almonds on them which is a somewhat mild nut. And peanuts are not technically nuts though, they're legumes. My DH has pretty severe nut allergies, he can only have almonds (for some reason), all other nuts give him a reaction and he is not allergic to peanuts. We'll be holding off on nuts for a pretty long time.

  • DS has had HNC and banana nut and nothing. He did have a frendch fry that was cooked in peanut oil.( we didn;t see the small sign onthe wall) and nothing, but I am still a little leary about trying it. Well I have to seen because its one of the snacks int he toddler room when he moves over and i need to kow if he is allergic to it.
