nursery planning when not finding out sex but want gender specific design

I want to decorate gender specific, but obviously it's hard when we aren't finding out the sex!  I have a neutral tan color on the wall and was thinking of doing pink/brown or blue/brown.  I was going to buy 2 beddings and then take the one I don't need back, but I hate all the beddings that  you can buy in the stores.... I want something online that I would have to order.  Of course the issues are can I return it, it takes 7 weeks to come in etc.

I was thinking of having the Dr. write it down on paper and I'll give it to someone to order the bedding and keep it at their house until the baby is born......any other thoughts/suggestions?

For those of you who aren't finding out, what/how are you decorating the nursery?

TIA!

Re: nursery planning when not finding out sex but want gender specific design

  • The baby will not sleep in the crib for a while so why not decorate the nursery with everything except for bedding and choose a bedding that comes in pink/brown and blue/brown combos (like Restoration Hardware) that way you can decorate most of the nursery then just order the bedding when the baby comes.

  • Are you planning on have DC in a pack n play in the beginning?  You could order the bedding after your LO is here.  DS slept in our room for the first 8 weeks.

We were also team green but went with a gender neutral nursery.  This is only our short term home and we're looking to move soon so he'll have a big boy room then with a boy theme.  We'll use his gender neutral stuff for our next kids since we're not finding out with them either.

  • We already know the sex but I've always thought our bedding set is gender neutral. I think lots of colors can go either way. You don't have to do just pink or blue. We bought ours from Amazon and it shipped very quickly. Link in blog to pics of our bedding.
  • We went with neutral decor and will pull out either the blue if it's a boy or the light apricot color for a girl. Either way we'll add brown polka dots I believe. It's killing me to not have paint on the walls (we built this house so right now the walls are builder's white) but in the end it will be worth it. I LOVE how it's coming out.
