I don't know the difference between the two different Leapsters, but DH has a DS and I think it would be pretty difficult for DD to figure out. I think the leapster would be more use friendly for kids, and have more educational games.
Leapster 2 hooks up to your computer so you can track your DC's progress. It's pretty worthless, but it is hard to find a regular Leapster around anymore.
We got a Leapster for DS for his 4th bday. He'd never had anythign like it before, so it was good for him. It is pretty durable too. I think if we'd gotten him a DS at 4 he would have broken it already.
That being said, he will probably get a DS at this time next year and the Leapster will go to his sister. I won't be buying another Leapster for her, it would be a complete waste.
I was checking out games for the DS, DD loves to play dad's "video game" when I am in the shower or when we are doing her hair. We have mario cart in and she has can only do so much until she get stuck. Anyways, I couldn't find any games that were easy enough for a 3yo.
I think my mom is going to get her one of the leap things?
My kids all had a Leapster, they got bored quickly and now they don't even work anymore. I don't know how old your DS is. DS got a Nintendo DS for his 9th b-day and DD1 is getting one for christmas and she is 5.
