Help me think of an inexpensive, meaningful wedding gift

We are spending a lot to travel to a college friend's wedding -- in fact some of our friends aren't giving a gift because of the travel costs.  I still think we should get a gift (what do you think?).

Anyway...what is something inexpensive but still charming that we could get??

  • If you're crafty, you can get a frame and frame their wedding invite and maybe the verses from their vows if you know what they have picked.

  • Maybe look on Etsy or in a boutique for a really special Christmas ornament for their first married Christmas (assuming they celebrate Christmas-if not, please disregard my suggestion!)

  • I once got a couple an engraved liquor caraffe (there is a fancier name for it, but I can't remember what it is).  I got it from Pottery Barn and it was well under $100.  It was really pretty and they loved it.

  • Maybe a picnic basket with cheeses and wine and fruit to take to their hotel after the wedding. Someone did this for us and it was so nice.

  • Travel or not, you should totally give a gift.  You have a year to send something, so I like the idea of doing something with the invite or something from the wedding.  Maybe you'll get some great pictures at the wedding you can do something with?

Pyrex dish with new last name etched on it.  I have been saving this idea for ages.

This is a GREAT idea! I love it!!! I seriously think that I will be making stuff like this to give out as xmas gifts since we are on a tight budget this year.
