Painted wall mural question...

I ordered a tree wall mural from Rosenberryrooms.com.  I was planning on using a coordinating shade of wall paint for the mural in a satin finish.  When I was just reading the directions that came with the mural...I noticed that they said to use acrylic paint.  So, I was wondering...what type of paint did you ladies use on your murals?  I emailed the company that manufactured the mural and am waiting for a response from them as to why they recommed the acrylic.  Sorry if this is a stupid question but I want to make sure that I do this right the first time!

Re: Painted wall mural question...

  • I used acrylic myself because I like the fact that if you are using a lot of different colors the bottle of acrylic is 99 cents each, dries quick so you don't have to wait to apply a new color or second coat and is easy to manage (thicker then wall paint).

I do know other people who have used regular wall paint with great results though. So use what you like!

  • Thanks!!!  My tree is all one color so no need for lots of options there.  Goood point on the faster drying though, I hadn't thought about that.  Did you use a clear coat of any type over your work after it was complete?
  • Yes, I used a dry coat they sold at the craft store. I heard that acrylic paint can chip and also that it is easier to clean with a clear coat.
