He can read! (Total AW)

Can I AW my 3-year-old? I was writing words down for him yesterday, and he could read almost 10 words! I have no idea if he actually "reads" them or if it's just memorization, or if that's how little kids start to read. But he's known all his letters for a long time and the sounds, and it's just so cool to me that he can read now.

(yes, total shameless AW-ing -- I warned you)

you should be psyched! Amelia did that very thing right when she turned 3- she's now 3.9 and can read just about anything- magazines, newspapers, etc. (Seriously, it's a bit freaky!) Memorization or not, it's the absolute foundation for true reading skills, and it's really a marvel to watch develop in kids!

We educators call the memorized words sight words, it is totally reading. It's so exciting, isn't it??
