Dry scalp?

Mia is starting to get extremely dry scalp. So many flakes of skin and everything, and it's super noticeable with her dark hair. I was told baby oil will make me better.

Just wanted to get your opinions or any other advice of the matter?

TIA!

Re: Dry scalp?

  • If it's cradle cap, it will make it better, but will probably keep coming back.

I'm baby oiling DS's eyebrows for the same reason.

  • DD had flakes too and we started washing her hair more often. (every other day).  Brush her hair before washing to loosen up the flakes - it really helps.  I did read that putting baby oil on for about 10 minutes then washing thoroughly will help.

Either way, it's not cute ;)

  • I just did some research today on cradle cap, which along with every other baby skin disease, it looks like DS is developing.  Tonight we are going to rub some olive oil into his scalp. let it dry 15 minutes, brush it out and then shampoo really well.  You can you baby oil too if you want.  I thought it was caused by dry skin, but it is actually the over production of the oil in their scalp so you want to make sure you wash the scalp well every day.

  • We have some dry scalp here too... It was pretty bad and I did the baby oil thing. I left it in for a while and was brushing up the flakes then washed it.

Its not as bad now but it does flake up at times. It seems like its always bad right after the bath.

I spoke with pedi about it and she suggested using the baby oil and actually using a baby soft toothbrush to flick up the flakes. She said that you have more control over the angle and can get them up better. SHe said to do this if his gets worse.

ALSO - she said we could use a dandruff shampoo (Pert, HandS) and that will help. SHe said to be careful of his eyes when using that - again she said only if it gets worse. She said it can't hurt him.?
