I leave next Thursday to fly from Florida to Texas with my twins who turn 2 on December 1st. I'm flying by myself because my husband (military) is deployed and I want to spend Thanksgiving with my family. Anyone done this or have any advice?
Thanks!
Re: Flying w/ 2 yr old twins by myself...
i would get leashes... the backpack type - so they can run around a bit and not have to be in a stroller every second you are waiting in the terminal, etc... but that way they still can't go in 2 directions away from you- which is the biggest worry I'd have.
good luck! and God bless your DH and you for serving our country!
This. We both fly with our almost two year old twins and these are a lifesaver. And give yourself plenty of time. Plenty. And bring a little DVD player so they can watch their favorite show. And lots of snacks. Like the candy yummy kind to keep them happy.
You must be totally awesome to do this!
I flew alone with my girls in October and it was one of their best flights ever. The number one thing I recommend is individual DVD players - a complete life saver for me. I also gave the girls toddler sized backpacks to keep some books, color wonder markers, and small toys in. They liked having their own backpacks and it was nice not to have to try to cram all that stuff into my own bag.
Also, I recommend sitting the middle between your two kids - when my kids are right next to each other for a long period of time they tend to get antsy and fight.
And I've found that collapsing the stroller in the waiting area and carrying it down to plane, is a lot easier than trying to do it at the plane when there's a gazillion people there and your trying to get all your crap organized. And I've actually been lucky a couple times where airline personnel have offered to bring the stroller down to the gate for me.
You might also try to request to sit in the very last row of the airplane. You'll be less likely to bother people if your kids act up for some reason. Also, the flight attendants often sit back there and I've found that most of the time they enjoy entertaining cute kids.
Oh, and just general advice, bring lots of treats. We usually start with healthier snacks and break out the M&Ms toward the end of the flight (handed out individually to make them last). And for the landing we always give lollipops to help with their ears (and keeps them occupied).
Best of luck with your trip!
