It's the night before my shower and I've just looked at our Babies R Us and Target registries......
3 items total out of both lists have been purchased.
I know people are coming, and I'm really not ranting about people not buying things from the registries or even getting gifts at all....I just don't understand what was the point in taking the time to make the registries if people never buy anything off of them anyway.
just thinking out loud here
Re: Registries are stupid...?
Hey call me selfish if you want but I would be upset if only 3 things were bought on my registry and my shower was tomorrow. If you are like me, I have also attended like a million showers and always bought nice gifts for my friends
After 7 years trying to concieve, 3 failed IUIs and 2 failed IVFs, my third IVF was a success!
My Christmas baby turned into a turkey bird! Dillon Richard was born at 34 weeks, 5 days on November 28, 2009 after 10 weeks on bedrest for preeclampsia.

Weren't you going to have to make a list of the things you need anyway, whether you were having a shower or not?
Dont be TOO upset just yet- its possible people got you knock-off brands of the same thing, the same things from different stores, etc. Also, a lot of people buy things but forget to have them scanned to be removed from the registry- it happens- A friend of mine got married while I was working at Target.
She was registered there, so I bought like 8 things from her registry listing while on break one day. Well, turns out, other people ALSO got her those same items (yes, ALL the ones I just happened to have purchased!) but didnt get them removed from the registry list- irritating!!! So like i said- dont get your panities in a wad just yet- sometimes not listed items are best anyway- hello, diaper cakes!!!!
I really like registries. It makes my life easier as a gift giver, and I am the kind of gift giver that truly wants to get something for someone that they want and can really use. I will say this after having spent a couple of hours at BRU (my vacation day off) yesterday trying to find items off of gift registries, some items are only available online (this means that they would have to pay for shipping)--some people like to buy the item at the store in person better--some items are difficult to find, especially clothes, -if there is not a picture online or if the item can only be bought in the store, and the items were not as easy to find--for time and convenience some people may have respected your preference of the kind of store that you like but may have picked up something else that they thought you would like (hopefully they attached a gift receipt for your convenience in case of duplicates).
I think I love you.
I like registries because they give me an idea of the person's taste/style/likes/etc. Sometimes I can find a better quality item at different store. Other times I can find the same item on sale in a different store which allows me to give more to the person. And yet other times I make something to compliment the nursery. In the end, I don't think that it is a waste.
I've wondered if in different areas of the country registries are more commonly used than in others. Do many people in your area use registries?
Registries are very commonly used in my area - although I am finding that people use wedding registries much more than baby ones. I think older people who had babies years ago just like to buy what they think you need. I can't tell you how many clothes and BLANKETS we got at ours. I had a mix of both at my shower this weekend. GL in getting what you need!
Both stores suck at marking items as purchased, BRU more so than Target.
