Birth Methods: Hypnosis During Birth?

Hi everybody! I'm just getting started bumping and it's been really amazing to follow along with you for the first part of my first pregnancy!

I just had my 3rd prenatal and the midwife recommended I think about using hypnosis during birth. Has anyone heard of or tried this birth method?

Do you have any other recommendations for birth methods to check out? I've heard of lamaze and bradley, but what are your experiences with these?

Thanks a million!

Re: Birth Methods: Hypnosis During Birth?

  • I have no personal experience with Hynobirthing, but there was a great article in Mothering magazine about it.... can't remember what issue though, sorry! I am fascinated by that, so I might have to look into it for the next baby!

  • Big Smile Ooh! Mothering Magazine was a good suggestion. I found three articles online that might be helpful:

Off Her Back (2007): about making empowered choices for birth and how hypnobirthing can help

Choosing Childbirth Technique (no date): what to do when one birth method might not work how you want it to

Choosing a Childbirth Education Class (no date): really great, comprehensive discussion of how to choose the right class for you, plus a list of many different options out there

    Thanks for your great idea!!!

I'm hoping other mothers out there can share their resources and experiences about birth methods. What a fascinating, amazing process. Smile

  • We utilized Hypnobirthing during the birth of our daughter and had a wonderful experience.  We took classes through HealthEast and were totally pleased with the instructor.  We also enjoyed meeting the other couples in the class.  I can't recommend it enough!
