s/o 1st birthday ?

If your preemie was born really early, did you give your baby any kind of "treat" for their 1st actual birthday?

Andrew will be just under 9 months adjusted on his 1st birthday and won't have had anything but oatmeal and pureed fruit at that point.  So, should we just give him pureed peaches and eat peach pie along side him?

We had aregular birthday cake for him at his birthday... I checked with his doctor, and he was OK with it, so we did it! It was his first experience with cake, and did great with it! Up until that point, he'd only had purees and oatmeal...

I'm so bad, we even gave him boxed cake mix cake and canned frosting! I know there are recipes out there that are low/no sugar cakes specifically for first birthdays....

we gave him cake - funfetti mix from a box. he did fine. he had had baked good before that so i knew he was okay with eggs IN things, and he has never had any real food issues except a mild reaction to tomatoes.

he also hated purees so we started him on soft solids from the get go (avocado, banana etc)

We did a cake. I made an organic box mix cake and my mom helped me make icing with powdered sugar and bananas (DS's favorite food).  By that point we had given DS eggs and wheat teething biscuits, so I was pretty sure he was not going to react to anything.  We had cupcakes for the guests so that DS could dig into his own cake.  He didn't really eat very much.  Good luck!
