21 lbs at one years old?

Re: 21 lbs at one years old?

  • I'd say it's normal. My DD was 19lbs at her 1 yr check up and a smidge under 30 inches. 3 months later she is up to about 23 pounds...I think her love of whole milk has something to do with it ;-)

  • Doesn't sound underweight at all!! My DS was 22lbs and only 30 inches tall and Dr said he was in the 50% which is good.
  • DD was not quite 20 lbs at 15 months, so I don't think it is the weight at all.  I would guess your doc is reacting to the drop from 90% to 48%, which is probably nothing, but I know from my underweight DD that that is what they really look at.  What's "normal" for that baby.  DD is always in the 10th percentile, and as long as she maintains that, they are not concerned.  It is the consistency and growth curve for them that matters.

I would just get her weighed again in a few months (or get a second opinion in the meantime) and don't worry!

  • DD was a little smaller, and she was like 33 inches tall. no concern about her weight at all.

  • Totally normal. DD was 20 lbs. at 1 and only gained a few ounces between her 9 and 12 month appts.  Her weight gain is slowing down since she's so active.  My Dr. wasn't worried in the least.
  • DD was 21lbs 4oz and just short of 31 inches at 12 months. My pedi said she was in the 75th percentile for both...
