How to stop scooting in crib?

Ethan is a moving little guy.  I believe he wakes himself up at night when he reaches the top of his crib.  Meaning: he scooted all the way till his head hit the bumper.  I've tried putting him in sleep sacks but last night he managed to scoot even in that.  Any ideas how to rein him in?

Re: How to stop scooting in crib?

  • Good question.  I believe the answer is you cannot really do much- and (as you may recall w/ Emmy??)- they often like to end up next to the bumper/ rails anyway (maybe for security?).  But I will be interested in seeing other answers.

  • With both boys I just started them out with their heads right against the bumpers.  With Andrew when he learned how to crawl we had about a week of waking up every two hours as he moved himself until he got stuck and then I would have to move him back to the opposite corner and he'd move his way across again. After that the novelty wore off I guess.
  • Emmy never moved like that.  :(

I was just hoping for more hours of sleep because I believe once he can't scoot up anymore he wakes up.

  • Eve did this too, but we never found a way to stop it. Eventually, she just got used to it and all became well again. She still runs marathons around her crib every night - one of the reasons we haven't moved her to a big girl bed yet and aren't planning to any time soon.

  • Maddy scoots all over the place. Once we realized she scooted swaddled or in those sleep sacks we just put her in footed PJ's and let her figure it out.

  • Grace is never in the same spot when she wakes up as when I put her down.  Sometimes she does a full 180 and her head is where her feet used to be, but most times she is turned about 90 degrees and is now laying across the width of the crib instead of the length.  We just let her figure it out and dress her in footie pj's.
  • We just started putting E in the corner so she wouldn't scoot.
  • rosie scoots but she does it in her sleep ... scoots all directions too.  we just let her do it .. there's very little in the bassinet with her. we never know which way we're going to see her when she wakes up. lately it's been on her back .. she's got that tummy to back roll down pretty well.
