Unisom and B12?

Could I just take B12 or why is it that they combine a sleep aid with it? I'm guessing it's because B12 gives you lots of energy and they kind of balance each other out or is this not why? I am considering taking B12 to help with m/s that still has not gone away yet but I would like to just take B12 and not Unisom if possible.

Edit- Also, have you tried B6 alone or the combo and does it help much?

Re: Unisom and B12?

  • it's actually B6 and not B12.  You can take B6 by itself and it can help alone.  The reason it's B6 and unisom is b/c there was a drug on the market years ago that had those ingredients and it helped with m/s.  They took the drug off the market for other reasons not related the the b6/unisom combo so most docs still recommend trying that combo for m/s.

  • Ah good thing I asked I was just about to go get B12. Thanks for your help!
  • I had to take them both at the beginning of my pregnancy and still do take the Unisom...I found that it works just as well for me if I take half of a Unisom about 30 minutes before bed. It I took the whole one it would make me sleepy during the day, but with half I'm good to go. Hope it works! It was a lifesaver for me.

  • B6 helped quite a bit.  I couldn't do the unisom during the day, even half the pill, b/c it made me way too sleepy.
