i started a 900 cartridge on Saturday and have taken three shots at 300 each...in theory the cartridge should be done...
i know there is a little overage in each cartridge - the side of the cartridge states it contains 1.170 mL and I am pretty convinced that 900 units = 0.9 mL....so there should be another good 200-250 units left in the cartridge....
is there any way to use this overage if I need to do another shot of 300 tonight? or am I nuts and should I just open a new cartridge?
Also, is there way to save the little bit left in this used cartridge?
Re: can you use the extra in your follistim cartridge?
Yep! I always do.
Dial your dose (300) and push the plunger like normal. It will stop when the overfill is empty. Check where the dial is stopped at - then subtract that from your dose (I am not explaining this well. Example - it is stops at 125 then take 300-125= 175.) Then add the new cartridge and dial to 175 - you will get your full dose of 300.
I had to do that once when I was stimming. You just have to give yourself two different shots on the nights that you have to switch cartridges.
dial up your dosage and do your first injection. the dial will stop when the cartridge is empty and you should be able to see on the dial how much you have left to give yourself in the next shot. change cartridges and needles and give yourself the remaining dosage.
awesome - thanks!
i don't want 2 shots - but I don't want to waste $200 even more....
this exactly! you don't want to waste any if you don't have to
good luck!
the nurse at my shot class specifically told us that they always over-fill follistim and to never waste any of it b/c it's expensive. She told us to do the following:
set the dial to your normal dosage. Insert the needle into your belly and push the plunger until it stops. It'll stop when the cartridge is empty. Pull the needle out of your belly, and take off the used needle and put on a new one (but keep the cap on the needle). Unscrew the pen (but do NOT touch the plunger, leave it where it stopped) and remove the empty cartridge and put in a new one. Re-screw the pen closed. Remove the cap from the new needle and do the injection, pushing the plunger down the remainder of the way.
You don't have to re-set the dial this way.
Yup, I did. I managed to not have to break into my 600 IU cartidge that way.
I'm pretty sure that where the indicator stops is how much you need to still inject... So if it stops on 150 you still have 150 left to inject.
I too had 900 cartridge, and had exactly 150 leftover after it was "done." That was enough to get me to finish my cycle!
Same happened last cycle.
