We are going to someone else's house this year. Last year we had the staples...turkey, dressing, mashed potatoes and gravy. I also make biscuits (homemade) and we eat them in gravy. We had acorn squash (with just butter and salt and pepper) and mashed sweet potatoes with marshmellows melted on top, greenbean casserole, salad (I usually do a Greek because it is a family favorite), baked beans, and snowflake rolls. If someone asks to bring something I always say a simple appetizer or dessert. Most people arrive an hour or so before "dinnertime" so I just set out the appetizers then...and usually always have a veggie tray out. I make sure I have the traditional pumpkins pie and pecan pie...then whatever anyone else wants to bring. I have some family that have specialties they make and if they ask to do so I let them. My SIL makes the best baked beans and my niece is all about baking cheesecakes. I have another niece who does some very creative salads. If they do that it helps a lot because that is just one more thing I don't have to make. We normally have about 40 people (including kids).
They will be 8 people here including myself, DH, DS and DD who eats like a bird .
But so far I have
Turkey, garlic Mashed Potatoes, gravy, Sweet potato casserol, Sauteed green beans, Stuffing, Broccoli casserol, Garlic Bread, Cranberry sauce, and now my DH wants another option for meat ;( ( he's thinking Beef tenderloin), but that will only happen if he makes it.( Did I mention he can't cook?) . Pumpkin pie, and apple pie, ice cream ,a nd turkey cookies, Ds and I will be making .
And for appetizers, we're keeping it simple, Cheese ball, Veggie tray, Cheese and fruit tray, spinach dip, and crakers.
Tammy...it sounds like you are making enough to feed the crowd I have...40+ people!!! I think I'd rather come to your house. BTW...I don't think you need another meat dish.
Thanks hopefulmom, you are welcome to come over . I don't want to make anything else, and DH can go somewhere with his extra meat dish, it's not going to happen. This is going to take a lot of effort to make. I normally love to cook, but for some reason when I'm pregnant I want nothing to do with food or cooking , unless it's eating it (lol).
Re: What's on your Thansgiving Menu ?
We always over do, but here's our annual menu
Turkey
stuffing
mashed potatoes
gravy
sweet potatoes
turnips
butternut squash
grean bean casserole
cranberry sauce
rolls
italian wedding soup
some sort of pasta
pumpkin pie
chocolate cream pie
banana cream pie
apple pie
This is for 11-12 people. Totally ridiculous, but whatever.
We are doing the traditional dinner:
Turkey
stuffing
mashed potatoes
gravy
green bean casserole
rolls
pumpkin pie
It's just going to be DH, DS and I, but we are fine with that. We love thanksgiving dinner and love the leftovers!
