"String in a Needle" Gender Test

Okay, I know many people have mixed thoughts about old wives tales regarding gender tests...so this post is for those who have actually tried the "string in a needle" gender test. I'm not looking for negative responses about this old wives tale, I am just curious if anyone actually tried this test and if the results were accurate for you.

For those of you are unsure of what this gender test is:  A piece of string is thread into a needle, and someone holds the string (with the needle) as still as possible in front of your belly. If the string begins to make a circular motion, it is a girl...If the string makes a back and forth motion, it is a boy. My sister-in-law tried it with her last baby, and it worked (it was a girl).  I tried it last night for sh*ts and giggles, and it made a back and forth motion (which would mean a boy). Has anyone else tried this test for fun??

  • We did this on a friend of mine back in the day and it didn't work.

  • MY friend did this and it said three kids one girl and two boys. She has had one girl and a boy already and they are going to try to have another baby.

Her husband did it and it said two boys (her girl is from a previous marriage)

    Hey you figure it's a 50/50 chance!

  • I have heard of doing it with a piece of your hair (I know, kind of creepy) and your wedding ring. My friend did it and it said she would have 2 boys. She has one boy, with one on the way. Her sister in law did it and it said 2 boys and she has 2 boys. Both of our moms are from Germany-so not sure if the hair/ring is a european thing or not! :) My Oma did it to my Mom when she was young and it said 3 girls-which is true. My Mom did it to me and mine said a boy, then a girl. We shall see I guess! Either way, its a fun thing to do!
  • I did it with DD and it was true. It went in circles. This time I did it and it went back and forth. The U/S was hard to see but Dr. said looks like a boy but won't give me 100 % on that. Took a gender pee test and it also said boy. So I think it worked for me . Good Luck
  • A girl I work with swears by it. She said they did it to every female in their family and it was 100% correct. I have never tried it before, but I might some day just for fun.

  • How far along do you have to be before this "works"?

  • I tried the ring on a string test.  I had DH do it, since he had no clue what it meant.  Mine went in circles (which means a girl).  I'll find out if it was accurate in 11 weeks.

  • I did it, and it stayed completely still.  :(   Crap, now I'm gonna worry 'cause I just realized what that could mean...   :(
