Why does formula smell so bad?

I'm on antibiotics and can't bf for 3 weeks, so we just started giving Shane formula last night. We're using enfamil lipil. Am I the only one who thinks that it smells really bad? He's been taking it with no problem, so it must taste fine. I usually taste all of his food, but I can't bring myself to try the formula, lol

    LOL. I think it's the intense fusion of everything baby could possibly need. :) You know what smells worse!? Those nasty, nasty vitamins that the doctor seems to think my baby will take.

    I think because it's fortified with iron.  I think it smells, also.  Not as bad as vitamins, but has a slight odor.

    OMG, yes! I gave up on those vitamins. I could not get him to take them, no matter what I tried. He spit them out, and wasted countless bottles when I tried to slip them in unnoticed. Ugh!

    Yeah, we gave up too! I feel an itsy bit guilty and kind of pretend that we still try when we go to the doctor, but I also tell them that she refuses, which she does. I got tired of my baby smelling like concentrated vitamin spit up, and we go outside plenty to get vitamin D.

    I think it's the iron too. When I gave LO formula a few times when she was born is smelled horrible and I felt bad for giving it to her but she didn't mind at all of course.

    It may be weird but I used to love how her breath smelled when she was a newborn. She rarely spit up and it always smelled so sweet. Sigh, I miss my newborn sometimes......

    I loved this too... can baby breath smell actually be cute? I think so.

    Have you tasted it yet? It tastes like licking a metal pole and grass combined. If I had a choice I would never make her drink it again, but I don't and DD seems to really like her formula.

    OMG I posted about this last week or something, and no one knew what I was talking about when I mentioned a metallic smell and taste! It's so awful tasting/smelling compared to BM!!! I have no idea how a baby could suddenly start having it and be fine with it! The first time X had it he screamed, but the second time he was fine (that is the only times he's had it).

    I'm so glad I'm not crazypants!!
