Normal for 10.5 month old to wean from nursing?

He suddenly wants nothing to do with BFing.  Law did this, but at 12.5 months (and I believe it was because I was pregnant and my milk changed in flavor).  It just seems a bit early.

He'll take bottles of formula fine.  When he's acting hungry, I'll try to nurse and he'll fuss and push away, but he'll slam a bottle if I get him one.

  • Sounds like a nursing strike. I would stop giving bottles for a couple of days if possible.

This.  Try going into a quiet room with no distractions when you nurse.  It's pretty typical for them to seem uninterested at this point but if you keep at it, he should go back to it.

  • "They" say if it's sudden, then it's a nursing strike.

Is there any way you got something in your diet that he can't have? I know he's allergic to a ton.

Kellymom.com has some good info on nursing strikes too.

  • This is about when both my boys weaned...and I just went with it, I was ready to be done.  I might could have pushed through and kept at it, but they were both happy with bottles and 10 months was good and plenty for me :)

  • My oldest DD weaned for a bottle at 9 months (went right to a regular cup).  My oldest DS weaned from EBF at 10 months.  Just no longer interested and he was not getting bottles...but water and juice from a glass/cup.  We went straight to cows milk and a cup.  My two younger ones were both 12 months and EBF.  They went to sippy cups.
