Baby Names

Our list has been narrowed...a bit

Our middle names will be Jesse and Trost (pronounced with a long O).  These are both family names.  I cannot have the initials CJ because of a bad association.  Anyway, here is the list of first names that we have come up with.

Hudson

Colby

Blake

Chase

Jarrett

Dane

Cole.

DH has his heart set on Cole.  I think it sounds a little rednecky, but thats why he likes it.  DH is the huntin, fishin, country type (and I'm not).  What do you all think, and feel free to match them with the middle names.

Re: Our list has been narrowed...a bit

  • How in the world does Cole sound "rednecky"? That is my 12 y.o. son's name and we're New Englander's through and through. Cole is a very traditional English name, that I think most people consider to be preppy/classic. As for your other names, I like Blake and Dane.
  • I liked Cole...a lot, until DH started pronouncing it with a southern accent.  That ruined it for me.

I was thinking the same thing!  I know 3 Coles and they are both from suburban middle class families in NJ.

I like Chase Trost and Dane Trost.  I like the name Jesse, but I don't know how well it fits as a mn in general.

  • Yeah, I don't know how Cole could be rednecky, and I know rednecky.

Of your list, I like Cole and Jarrett. Chase is OK. Blake is girly to me, Colby is cheese, Dane is a dog and Hudson is a river.

But, I don't think Cole Trost goes, and if you won't use Cole Jesse that's your only choice.

What about other short names like Reid, Vaughn, Graham, Pierce, etc.?

  • Well, you are in Virginia and depending upon what part you're in, I'd imagine that any name you choose may be said with a southern accent... And if your husband speaks with an accent, won't any name sound southern from him? That's a strange explanation.
  • Hudson, Cole and Blake are my favorites of your list.  I think I'd do Hudson Jesse and Cole Trost.

Depending on what type of Southern accent, certain words can sound a lot worse than others. I feel the same way about how some things are pronounced by Bostonians.

I can imagine "Coe-ull" and I can see how that would not sound as good as Cole.

  • I like Husdson, Chase and Dane the best.  Jarrett I really don't like at all for some reason!

Not a fan of Cole...there are tons of them these days!

  • How does Cole sound redneck? That is just a very odd thing for you to say. FWIW, I have a southern accent and say it as a one-syllable name- "Cole" or "Coal" if you will.

I like Chase as well. I dislike Colby, Hudson, and Jarrett.

  • I like Hudson and Cole

    Dane is also very cute!

  • I like Hudson and Dane.

FWIW, I think Jarrett is more "rednecky" than Cole.

  • I really like Chase. Cole is ok. I don't like the others.
  • I think Colby sounds more "southern" than Cole. I really like Cole. Like Chase, Hudson...but don't really like Jarrett. The others are ok.

  • I like the following:

    Jarrett Cole

    Jarrett Chase

    Hudson Cole

    Hudson Chase

I would think Colby would be a good compromise since your dh like Cole and you don't.

  • Hudson Jesse

    Cole Trost

I don't think Jesse really "goes" but I love Hudson and Cole.

I don't care for any of the other names. Chase is a verb. Sorry.
