i've been dealing with a crappy cold for the last week. each day it is a new symptom-one day a sore throat, next day stuffy congested. I've had a bad headache off and on all week. My cold is getting much better but the headache just doesn't seem to go away. i've used an ice pak daily to help and some days i've need to take a tylenol to take the edge off. But basically the headache never really goes away completely-I have not had a fever at all. I'm starting to wonder if this headache is the 'pregnancy' headaches i've heard others getting or if i should be worried and call the dr. WDYT? Thanks...
Re: Question: cold/headache problem
I think headaches are common with colds and sinus problems. You can also get headaches from pregnancy - I've had a few of those and they aren't fun! So I wouldn't worry too much.
That being said, if it persists, I would call the dr just in case. I think in some cases headaches can be a sign of high blood pressure, but I would guess it's probably nothing to worry about!
Feel better!
I've had pregnancy migranes throughout my preg and they suck! That being said, I started getting them every day a couple of weeks ago. I called my doc's office and they asked some questions to qualify if it could be high blood pressure: --do you have any swelling...feet, hands, ect? --do you have any blurred vision? there was one more, but I can't remember, cause my headache is killing me. :-) But I'd say if the answer is yes to any of these other questions, get it checked out asap. Call your doc tomorrow about the headaches just so they have a record of it. And if it isn't being helped by the tylonal, they can give you something else. Good Luck!
A constant headache lasting several days can be a sign of high BP so it might be worth mentioning to your OB. But it sounds like you have a sinus headache. They can be more common in pregnancy as some develop more mucous during pregnancy. Benedryl has been a God send, but does make me sleepy so I only take it at night. Sudafed and Tylenol didn't work for it.
If you are still stuffy and have the headache, I would call the doctor. Your cold could have turned into a sinus infection. You could try saline nasal rinses or boiling water and putting a towel over your head and breathing it in for 10-15 minutes to see if it helps. I've been sick with a cold all week so I feel your pain. My cold also started as a sore throat then moved to a cough then congested and that's where I'm at coughing and congestion.
I had 8 sinus infections one winter prior to having nasal/sinus surgery back 2008. I know that warm moist heat was much better for me than an ice pack.
