Zicam while pregnant

Have any of you ladies taken Zicam when pregnant?  I feel a cold coming on and the stuff has worked wonders for me in the past.  I'd call my midwife's office, but it's Sunday and I'm not sure I want to go talk to the local big box pharmacist about something homeopathic.

The active ingredient is Zincum Gluconicum.

(I'd probably just let the cold run its course any other week, but I've got a major gig this next weekend that I'll be traveling for.)

Re: Zicam while pregnant

  • I think any website, etc is going to caution against supplemental zinc, vitamin C, etc...  I had a cold and stuck it out without the extras (and it was rough).

I'd say if you are going to start taking something today, take Cold-eeze lozenges.  Same main ingredient but I think they have less "extra" stuff.

    Feel better!!

  • Didn't the FDA recently warn people against using Zicam because of people losing their sense of smell from using it?

  • Yes, there is an FDA warning against using any Zicam products due to many people losing their sense of smell! Better find something else I'm afraid. I do recommend a sinus rinse to all my patients fighting these kinds of upper respiratory bugs - one brand is NeilMed, you can get it over the counter & they have both the squeeze bottles & neti pots.
