xp- anyone familiar w/ isle of palms?

we're looking to rent a house there this summer and I'm just curious about whether there are any 'bad' locations (since it is only a few blocks deep) or anything else to look out for? right now availability is good for a lot of places on vrbo and we want to book early. Is cameron blvd in the 20s/30s/40s pretty good? are there limited beach access point that we might want to be near (we'll have 11 month old twins & all their gear with us) to make the walk quicker/easier? do most houses have driveways/parking? Also- I know Wild Dunes is a whole section of the island, if we see something in there, how to know if it is good location close to the beach? Thanks!

Re: xp- anyone familiar w/ isle of palms?

  • Hello!  I'm not too familiar w/ IOP but my parents live there.  As far as I know of, there are no bad locations there.  A lot of the residents, I believe, are usually only there during the summer.  Guess they use it as a beach house.  Everyone there is really friendly, helped me find my lost dog.  LOL! He actually ended up in the Wild Dunes area.  You won't be able to get in unless you have a pass or something of that sorts.  There is a security checkpoint, so it's pretty safe over there. Not too familiar with where Cameron Blvd. is though.  Let me know if you have any questions.  Good luck!

  • There are a ton of beach access paths on IOP. You will def. want to make sure the house is close enough to walk to those paths though. There are certainly plenty of houses that would require a drive. Just make sure you get the address and look it up on google maps. Also to answer your Q, most houses have driveways.

I would also suggest looking at Sullivans Island. It's right next to IOP and much less touristy. It's where most locals go to the beach at and has some great restaurants.
