Hey Bubbly--
I hate to ask you a work question, but something in me is not sure if I should give DS Benedryl. BTW, he's never had it before. Here's the deal...
He has had a dry cough, and only a dry cough, for about 12 days. It isn't terrible, and he tends to have 1-2 coughing fits a day and one overnight. I called the pedi and since he doesn't have any other symptoms, they said to give him "Children's liquid benedryl". 1 tsp every 4-6 hours as needed or just right before bed. He's 22 months and 35 lbs...huge.
Anyway, I have Children's Benedryl Allergy in my cabinet. I called the pharmacist to make sure that's the same thing, and he said that's fine. But when I read the box, nowhere on it does it say it helps a cough. All the stuff it is supposed to relieve is stuff he doesn't have.
Honestly, I'm not convinced I got the right info from the nurse, and it just seems like the meds don't fit his symptoms. Am I right?
Re: Bubbly--Rx ? for you
If it's a dry cough, the benadryl isn't going to do much for it. It would help more if it was a junky/wet sounding cough due to sinus/nasal discharge. I really don't think the benadryl would do much other than make him sleepy, OR the reverse and make him hyper.
There's not a lot you can do for a dry cough, best thing is just to make sure he stays hydrated so his throat will stay moist.
Poor guy. Hope he's better soon!
You take my ovaries, I take your yarns.
Thanks! That's exactly what I was thinking. And he sleeps pretty well so I'm going to pass on it. Thanks again!
Off to put the kids to bed!
