Maybe TMI... Breastfeeding Question

I have been breastfeeding DS exclusively since he was born and haven't gotten my period yet and have had a white/clear CM thus far.  And today I had a pinkish white CM.  It is quite bothersome and I am a little worried that maybe this isn't normal.  I looked in my breastfeeding book and couldn't find anything about it and when I googled it all I got were pregnancy posts.

Wondering if others are/have experienced this? Is this normal when breastfeeding?

  • Could you be pregnant?

  • It is always a possibility since I am not taking any birth control and we are just using condoms, but I would hope not!

  • I thought I had read somewhere that this increased CM was normal with breastfeeding, but now I can't find that information anywhere.

  • I had this a lot when my baby was 3ish months old.  I went to the OB & she did a HCG test to make sure I had no pregnancy hormones (from part of the placenta still being attached & making my body think it was pregnant).  It was determined I was not...so the OB said that sometimes you just get what she called "cracks" in your uterus (I don't remember the technical term) that makes you have pink/spotting.  It is harmless according to her...I had never had it before after a pregnancy.  It did eventually go away & I have had no spotting since (2mo later).  I would give your OB a call, but there is a good chance it's nothing.  Good luck!

  • Did you have a lot of spotting? I just had it briefly this afternoon and now it is gone again, but the constant CM discharge has been on-going since DS #2 was born.
  • I bf for over a year and don't remember that! Maybe your period is coming...everyone gets it at different times when bf'ing. I didn't get mine until dd was 11 months when she was weaning and not bf'ing as much. I would call your OB if you are concerned that is what they are there for, right? GL
  • I had the same thing last month. I thought maybe it was my period coming back as I had some cramping too. Happened two separate days then nothing. I'm curious to see what happens this month around the same time. A lot of people I polled said they EBFed and still got their periods around 4-5 months. :(
