A friend of mine asked me if I wanted her breat pump. She said that I could get new tubes and suction cups or whatever...and that the only part she is giving me would be the mechanical part. She's done having kids and doesn't want it back.
What do you guys think? Good idea? We are trying to save as much as we can.
If you think this is ok, does anyone know where to purchase tubes and the rest of the stuff?
Re: used breast pump?
If it were someone I knew..I'd consider it.
I wanted to buy a used one and Dh thought it was gross, I told him it wasn't I could buy new tubing, etc. They loan them out at the hospital so I figured whats the difference
I did some research and I found out that the milk runs through the motor and technically if the person had aids it could transfer to the milk and through the motor which isn't able to be steralized.
I don't know if it's really a good idea or not.. I wonder what the big deal is and have thought about using a Medela PIS both my cousins used (who are sisters). They are so expensive and I want a Medela but since it's so strongly discouraged, we are planning on buying a brand new one off Ebay when LO is a few weeks old to make sure nursing is going well enough to spend the money.
As far as buying new tubing and breast sheilds, go to the website of the breastpump. If you can't buy them off of there, it should be able to direct you to a site or store you can purchase them at.
My girlfriend gave me her medela pump and I called the medela manufacture and got new tubes for free.
If you have the medela pumps call this number you can get the tubes for free.

Pumps aren't cheap, but I got a new one instead of getting a used one.
Bought mine from https://www.hackleyhme.com/
cheapest place I found. GL!
First off - AIDS (actually the HIV virus or any other virus) dies shortly after it is in contact with air so there is NO way possible to contract any virus from using a "used" breast pump.
2nd - my friends mom is a lactation specialist and said it is absolutely no different than renting one - as long as you are using new tubes and stuff. Obviously, you want to make sure everything is santatized (as you would for anything for your LO). If I had someone to borrow a pump from, I totally would.
