A girl I work with has been TTC for over a year now, she does have one little girl already, she is going to be 5 at the end of Nov. She really wants more children and does not know what to do. Since she has already had one child they dont think anything is wrong with either of them. She knows exactly when she ovulates every month but it never happens. She tried to stop worrying about it for a while and enjoy her little girl but you can tell it is still on her mind when she gets her AF.
She just got her AF today. What can i say to help?? or do you have any advice on things she could try? they dont want to do invetro cause insurance doesnt cover it and it is too expensive.
Help please!! TIA!!
Re: Advice Please!!!
IVF is the last step, so I wouldn't worry about that.
She needs to see an RE if she has been trying over a year. There is such a thing called Secondary Infertility, so it is quite common to have a child and then have problems.

Ditto pp. Many people do not realize IVF is the last step (or close to it anyway) there are many things that can be done before that step, some that are relatively inexpensive.
Maybe point her in the direction of just speaking to a doctor about what is going on, but in the end it is her decision as to how she can proceed. Just be there to listen and offer a hug. Unfortunately, no matter how you try nothing you say or do will make the situation better, but hugs help!
After 7 years trying to concieve, 3 failed IUIs and 2 failed IVFs, my third IVF was a success!
My Christmas baby turned into a turkey bird! Dillon Richard was born at 34 weeks, 5 days on November 28, 2009 after 10 weeks on bedrest for preeclampsia.

Ditto, my mother asked how much a surrogate mother would cost me and one of my friends offered to be the surrogate mother and we've only been trying for a year.
I would suggest having her go to an RE (Reproductive Endocrinologist) to get checked. They can do a bunch of blood work to check everything. It took me two years to have my first child. I was ovulating and still couldn't get pregnant. Once I was put on Clomid, it worked the 3rd cycle.
I agree with Krissy that there are many inexpensive things to be checked covered by most insurance before you even have to look into IVF.

Just because they conceived 5 years ago doesn't mean something can't be wrong. If she is certain she is O'ing (how is she sure?), maybe her husband is having issues. Sperm can easily be effected by all kinds of factors. Also, there are various other (fixable) things that can be wrong with her too. mild blockage of fallopian tubes, etc.
I would recommend going to a fertility specialist or RE and getting the basic tests done. If everything clears out there - try IUIs - they are minimally invasive and pretty effective.
IVF is last resort - not sure why they are jumping to that.
