Spent more than two hours at the pedi's office this morning with poor Miles for his 6-month checkup.
The doctor was running a half-hour late already, then I had to wait while they dug around for swine flu and regular flu vaccines (I delayed his other ones until next month because I thought these were more important given his respiratory issues), THEN we had to schedule follow up appointments for boosters and THEN the poor kid had to have blood drawn for his hemoglobin and thyroid tests.
Many people with Down syndrome have hypothyroidism, or low thyroid levels, so he was tested for that today. We should get the results in a few days, so keep your fingers crossed for us.
But man. They tried his arm first, dug around in there and couldn't find a vein. Then they pricked his heel and were squeezing blood out of that. Then THAT dried up and they had to prick his finger and squeeze blood out of there. They had to get six vials of blood!!
Needless to say, he passed out on the way back to day care. Poor boy.
Good news is he weighs 18.8 lbs and is 26 inches tall. That's in the 95th percentile for weight and 70th percentile for height for Down syndrome babies. The kid is thriving!!!

BW. Glad to hear it was just routine. Also great to hear how well he's growing!! If you know he is a "hard stick", ask for a warm pack 15 min or so before the BW- it will help the vien pop out a bit more, so hopefully they can get it the first time.
Poor little guy!
If they need more than a drop of blood now, we insist on going to Childrens hospital. BW is so much less painless when an expert does it.
Poor Miles ( That sounds traumatizing.
I think the crazy part is that he is 6 months!
:-( What troopers you all are!
