I want to wear DS more frequently

I am always holding him, and my arms hurt. The issue I've had with babywearing is that if I am not constantly moving, he gets mad; when I hold him, he is fine if we are in the same spot. I also use the stroller a lot because I live close to our center of town and I take him for walks while I run errands and use the stroller basket for storage.

Anyway, I want to find a carrier that I can just pop him into when I drive and go to a store. Would a ring sling (hip hold) be the easiest option? I have a babyhawk, which is ok and baby ktan, which is too big on me (I bought a size small and need an XS but I can't return it because its been too long). I want something where I don't need to tie/buckle/adjust really (so not really interested in an ergo, beco, etc.). Is there a place I can get a ring sling on the cheap? Also, I assume hes not too old for this type of carry? tia

  • Ring slings are great for quick carries - and I think they are easier with older babies who can do a hip carry.

I don't know much about brands but check out the FSOT on thebabywearer.com - you can get something with better quality fabric for cheaper there - and you'll want a good one for an older baby so that it will be supportive.

  • my baby is younger/smaller than yours, but for me a fitted pouch sling is working well for quick carries and those in-and-out of the car errands.  I just throw it over my shoulder and then stick DS in--no adjusting.
  • I love my Maya Wrap (esp. for BFing), and it's easy to walk and arrange baby properly in it while walking.  I also have a Jeep 2-in -1 Baby Carrier.  Once you get it properly "assembled" and adjusted, all you have to do is snap one of the hip clips and then just place your LO (since he has good head control) in the pouch.  While both solve the tired arms problem, I feel like I have more freedom to use both hands with the Jeep, and DD gets so excited when I pull it out, sometimes even grabbing it herself for use (can't tell you how many times I walked her to sleep wearing it, sometimes while vaccuming).
