Since our nursery doesnt have a closet, I am trying to figure out the best way to organize clothes in the dressers (dresser/changing table and chest of drawers) so I can find what I need later.
Right now I have the drawers organized by items...one for onsies, one for 2 piece outfits, one for socks/shoes, one for blankets....etc.
But now I am thinking maybe I should organize the clothing drawers by size...put newborn in one, put 0-3 months in one, etc.
Or maybe I should just keep the clothes in there that he will fit into and stash the rest away somewhere else and pull them out when I need them.
What are you doing??
Re: Anyone else NOT have a closet in the nursery?
We also have a tiny closet. I'm not using it for clothes. In fact, before it was the nursery it was my office/room and I had taken the pole out of the closet because it is so shallow as to be useless. You could get drawer dividers so that you can use a drawer for more than one thing. I doubt the baby's socks need to take up entire drawer. Maybe you could double it up with onsies. I plan on just having the clothes the baby actually fits into in the bureau drawers and having a tote with extras (though I'm going to try really hard not to have too much since I hear from a lot of moms that they have way too many clothes that the baby never even wears).
I think your first idea of organizing the drawers by items (onesie, socks, outfits, etc) is a better idea than organizing by size. You'll end up destroying the drawer rummaging around for a particular item.
good luck!
I have a closet but we already use it for our formal/occasional clothes.
For now I'm getting a chest of drawers and putting only stuff the baby will fit into in there and probably organize it similar to what you did. I can rotate bigger clothes in as the baby needs them.
Plus we're team green so not getting too many clothes before the baby gets here.
Our nursery is actually a 2nd closet/hobby room within the master suite. I found a short wardrobe for hanging clothes and have a dresser for folded items. I'm also using mesh baskets on a cubby-hole type bookcase for storage and looking for an ottoman to match the rocking chair my sister-in-law is giving us that can store things, too.
I think organizing by item will be best. I'm sure I'll end up adjusting things once I realize what I use the most (top and middle drawers) and what I use the least (bookshelf and ottoman), although, some of it will need to be used for toys, too!
