Overwhelmed!

So yesterday we went for our 12 week scan and to our suprise we are having twins!!! So exciting, except I made the mistake of "googleing" twin risk and now I am freaking out about everything that can/could go wrong.... up until this point everything has been going great, haven't even thrown up! I guess I am just looking for some words of wisdom or encouragment... thx.

Re: Overwhelmed!

  • First, Congrats!

Second, don't worry until you are given something to worry about - the stress isn't good, plus, it won't change anything! :)  A twin pregnancy is different than a singleton- you'll grow faster, gain more weight, etc. - but all the basic stages are there.  Enjoy it!

Most ladies here recommend Dr. Luke's book, "When You're Expecting Twins, Triplets, and More" (or something like that - it's been a while!)  Also, expect your OB to refer you to a Perinatologist or Maternal-Fetal Medicine dr., for at least a consult.

Oh, and don't Google too much!

  • Congrats!! It took me a while to get over the shock of having two. Don't google and try not to worry. I'm high risk for a lot of things going wrong b/c of surgeries I had. My pg has been completely uneventful so far. I wish I hadn't been so worried early on....it was a waste of time and energy. Try to enjoy your pg and let the doctors worry about all that stuff for you!

  • Congrats! Ditto on pp about the book and not to google too much. Also try not to think something is wrong because you are not having the m/s symptoms. I did not have any through out my whole pregnancy. Mine was pretty uneventful. You will feel overwhelmed at first, but it will soon start to settle down. We felt like this for a while. We didn't find out until I was 17 weeks with twins.

This exactly.  Welcome and congrats.  Don't google, it can be scary.  Ask lots of questions here.  Dr. Luke's book is great!  GL!

  • Congrats.  I found out at my 12 weeks u/s that it was twins.  I was especially surprised because I had a u/s at 6 weeks and there was only one baby and one heartbeat!
