I have Thrush and my dr called me in a prescription of Diflucan and some antifungal cream. I asked so many times if it was ok to take while breastfeeding and they said yes, so I took the diflucan and right after the pedi called me back and said it was not safe to nurse on the med. So now I have to pump and dump and give DS formula for the next 24 hrs. I am really worried about my supply and that he will go back to bf. Anyone have experience with this?

Re: So upset...
You mean he said it wasn't ok??
I've taken Diflucan while nursing-I thought it was fine:
"Fluconazole is excreted into breastmilk in amounts that are larger than many other drugs, but less than the neonatal fluconazole dosage. Although no adequate clinical studies on fluconazole in Candida mastitis have been published, a survey of members of the Academy of Breastfeeding Medicine found that fluconazole is often prescribed for nursing mothers to treat breast candidiasis, especially with recurrent or persistent infections.[1] Treatment of the mother and infant simultaneously with fluconazole is often used when other treatments fail.[1][2][3]"

that's ridiculous! its fine.

Also, one day of formula, while certainly not ideal, is not going to hurt either of you. Just keep pumping if you're not nursing and your supply should be ok. Worry and stress will temporarily reduce your output though, so don't freak out if you can't pump what you think you should.
Personally, I would nurse through it. If Jack Newman says its ok, then its fine by me.
