Taking LO to a lunch date...

We brought Max home in mid-July, and he's in day care, so we've never done the quarantine thing... I posted a couple of weeks ago about my friend who had a 28 weeker; I'm meeting her for lunch tomorrow at a place near the hospital; do you think it's OK if I bring Max with me?

He's not sick AT ALL, but do you think it's safer for her to avoid kiddos  in general, to keep from transferring germs into the NICU, or do you think we'll be OK? Like I said, we never had to pay  that close of attention to the isolation/germ thing, so I don't want her to be uncomforable/worried, and I *know* she'd love to see Max...it's been a long time!

Does this even make sense? LOL

  • It's my opinion that if you are meeting her out in a public place, then bringing your son is fair game!  I mean, who knows what she'll be exposed to at a restaurant...and you know your son is healthy...

    :-)

  • If you're worried about it, I'd call your friend and ask her.  I agree with pp that if you're meeting in a public place, she'll be exposed to way more than your son would bring.

  • Call her and ask what she thinks.

And keep in mind that plenty of moms with kids in the NICU also have kids at home - we can't necessarily avoid kiddos in general, and NICU protocols include huge amounts of handwashing for precisely that reason.

  • I think it would be fine! We had friends with a three year old and a newborn who lived near our NICU and we went to their house for dinner several times between visits. As long as everyone was healthy we weren't worried. But if you are afraid she might not be okay with it, call and ask her first.

  • I think its ok, as long as you think you can prevent Max from touching the baby...I'm sure she would have mentioned it if she wasn't comfortable.
