3rd Trimester

pros and cons to being tall

Im almost 6' tall.

Pros:  Baby has more room to stretch out, postponing the baby in ribs scenario.

You can gain more weight and it spreads out more.

Cons:  Finding maternity shirts  that are long enough for my man-torso and monkey arms are IMPOSSIBLE.  Don't even get me started on finding maternity pants with 36" inseams....

Genetics.  Tall mom = tall kid = amazing internal acrobatics with its equally-monkey arms.

Any tall mamas have something to add?

Re: pros and cons to being tall

  • I am 5'10'' and feel the same way..now that I am almost 37 weeks NO shirts fit me..even my hubby's man xl tshirts..not fun not fun at all.

  • CONS: baby doesn't drop and lives in my chest because he has the room to

  • Possible Pro: ?This may be an OWT, but I have heard that if you have a long torso you may not have to push as long during labor to get the kid out. ?Here's hoping! ?

And I agree on the pants...I'm not as tall as you (I'm around 5'10"), but it is so annoying having most of my pants being about an inch or two too short, and I really don't want to spend $50-$70+ on each pair of pants that will only be worn for a couple months to special order them in long. ?Especially since none of them are as cute as what you can find in regular lengths anyway. ?I have resorted to just keeping the pants pulled down a little further than I would like them and wearing longer shirts so the pants come to the floor instead of my ankle. I'm sure I look like a hot mess, but I really don't care at this point. ?I miss the summer when I could get away w/ my capris!

  • Pros:

More room for baby to stretch out

I still look small even though I've gained 35 lbs.

    Cons:

    Maternity pants!

LMAO... at 4 10... I am never able to find pants preggo or not... BUT, Kohl's clearance rack, grabbed a pair of maternity capris for like 5 bucks, the best part, they fit me like regular pants!!!!!!

  • Pros - I think tall women carry better.  I gained 40 pounds with DD#2, and seriously, you coudn't tell from behind.  I also have ginormous chest right now, and it really doesn't look that big.

Cons - at 33 weeks, my belly is already hanging below my shirts BUT I have a solution - extra long tanks from Target work really well underneath my clothes; maternity pants aren't long enough, but I've been tucking my boots into them.  In general, I think being tall is awesome, so I don't have any other things that are cons.  Being tall is my favorite thing about me!

  • Haha I agree!  (5'9").  The pains are a PITA, but the 55 lbs I've gained is kind of nice.  No one can believe I've gained that much...it is so distributed that you'd think I'd gained 20 lbs.  It will suck to lose though!

This! I'm 5'0" - I still have trouble finding maternity pants that cover my feet and I have trouble reaching anything in my kitchen that might be above my head since the bump gets in the way (I have to call DH to get it or use tongs or a stool). Darn those average sized women!?

  • I'm 5'9" and all torso, and was literally just complaining about the length of maternity shirts to another tall friend. The stupid panel on all my maternity pants is always showing because nothing hangs past it. I feel like I spend the entire time in public trying to yank my shirt over it! But I do agree that no matter how much I gain, people never think I look big in my pregnancies, even though I've always gained more than I'm supposed to.
  • haha!  I'm 6'1"...... so I know exactly where your coming from.

LMAO... DH has had to stop me from climbing onto the counters (even with a stool!)!  Normally I'd be able to stretch myself and push myself up enough to get to the candy stash... not anymore, I got a big belly in the way!  Oh how I wish I knew the pains of being tall!

  • I'm 5'11 and I've done pretty well so far with Old Navy shirts... but I'm buying an XL to accomodate.  Pants wise I found a pair of jeans that was long enough from Motherhood, and I got a couple pairs of dressy pants from them too but haven't had to wear those yet.. (SAHW)

With our whole remodel project I"ve been eating like crap though so I'm fully prepared to get lectured by the OB at my next visit for gaining too much... damn all that fast food :(

  • Oooh Oooh I have one & I am about 5'10:

Con: BENDING OVER!!!!! It is soo hard to bend down, and it is a long way down sometimes and then you have to try and get back up, oh no. Crying And pants are awful, thank God stretch pants are still in style, they're my only hope.

Pro: The weight def has more places to spread out so my additional 30lbs doesnt feel like I am sooo overweight.
