Carter is a perfectly great name on its own. Not every name needs a nickname.

Never heard of a Carter having a nickname. Ditto PP--not every name has to be shortened.

Omg, hilarious!  On a serious note, I like Carter just on its own without a nickname.  Plus, it doesn't really have any that come easily.

i know not every name has to have a nickname.  i have a tendency to shorten things anyway, so i'm trying to find something that doesn't sound akward.  carter may end up ebing a middle name....haven't decided yet.

I kind of understand what you are saying. My son's name is Logan, which doesn't really have a nickname either. I frequently catch myself calling him Loge though. It is just kind of natural to me to shorten it when I say it. Hopefully this isn't really a nickname that sticks though, because it's kind of silly

Maybe you could do something with initials if the middle name works, like:

Carter James (or another "J" name)= CJ

My DS is Carter and we just call him Carter, I don't think it is a name that needs a nn.  IMO.
