Flying with a 10 month old

So we're headed to Orlando next week, and I'm honestly pretty nervous about flying with Holly. She is not cool with just sitting on my lap these days. It's a direct flight, and it's only an hour & a half, but we're still wondering how we're going to keep her entertained and happy without making it a miserable flight for everyone else!

Any tips? TIA!

Re: Flying with a 10 month old

  • We always fight ghetto when it comes to air travel and Ben.  We bought a portable DVD player and some Baby Einstein dvds for his trip when he was 11 mos.  It may not be the right answer, but it is my no-holds-barred approach to not being that person with the rotten kid on the plane.

  • We flew w/ Savannah a couple of times already ... it was easier when she was younger b/c she slept. But gosh - even the last time we flew it wasn't *too* bad - she was only 8 months. But I cannot imagine trying to fly w/ her now ... she is wild and wants to be on the ground playing and crawling around. I don't really have any advice b/c I know there is a huge difference b/t the last time we flew to her age now - but I just wanted to offer my sympathies b/c I cannot imagine it will be easy .... HAHA! It stresses me out just thinking about it at this age! :)
  • When I flew with Nate, he was 13 months old. It was stressful because he did not want to be still or quiet, but we got through it.  We borrowed a portable dvd player from a friend, but only got it out as a last resort.  Mainly, we depended on lots & lots of snacks to keep him entertained.  TONS of snacks.  Also, I picked up some new toys for him (random cheap things that I found here & there) and brought out something new whenever he got antsy.

We were really lucky to have a lot of passengers who fell in love with him & played peek-a-boo with him, plus some flight attendants who wanted to hold him & play with him too.  So we let him flirt with whoever was interested in flirting back & that kept him pretty happy.  :)

  • I flew with my DD alone from PA to Savannah GA at that age.  I got some new hand held toys that fit in the diaper bag and lots of snacks.  The yogurt melts and the gerber dried fruit pieces were a hit.  I gave her a bottle during take off on the way down and she slept until I woke her up to install her carseat (I had her in a carrier on my chest).

  • I flew with Jack at 11 months and you know how mobile and busy he is! It was not as bad as I expected and i flew alone. Def. fine some new toys or pull out ones she hasn't played with in awhile...bring bottles, and snacks. The flight down i swear by the time we were in the air I felt like it was already time to land thats how fast it went. Jack napped for half the flight both ways. Good luck and make sure you bring plenty of formula on the plain and good luck!! cant wait to see pictures of holly in disney world!!

  • Ugh i feel your stress! I am flying with Lillian when she will be 4.5 months by myself to AZ, and we have a lay over in houston, FUN!!!

I know she is young and will hopefully sleep, but she can't sleep for over 6 hours, so who knows what will happen!

Good luck and let me know how it goes!
