I need haircut/style ideas-thick hair

I'm doing a spa day next week with my bff, and I will be getting my hair cut for the first time in almost a year.

I have long, thick, coarse hair. I need something that's easy, but cute. I'm drawing a blank on any celebrities that I might be able to print off.

Help?

I think we have similar hair. Whenever I try to cut too many layers, it just looks messy.

My go-to cut is pretty much all one length and long in the back, with face-framing layering in the front and long side-swept bangs.

ETA: I need an updo (or half up) for this wedding this weekend. Any suggestions for ME?

I am doing this in 2 weeks...finally! I have hair just like you are describing, but I don't know how short you want to go.
