Infertility

Tell me about endometrial biopsy's.

I need one to help figure out why I have had my "period" for 4 weeks straight.  I have 3 fibroids found on US today.  I would like lab work done first to see about my hormone levels, but she want to biopsy first.  She thinks that I'm having anovulatory periods and this is the topping on the cake. 18 day cycles prior to this 4 week bleed.

If anyone has gone through this type of testing, advice is appreciated.

  • I won't lie...it is quite painful but over quickly.

  • Ditto pp.  It is painful but over in a matter of minutes.  They insert a super thin catheter and remove a piece of tissue from the uterine lining.  Some people have bleeding after but I only had spotting for one day.  I also had a bit of cramping the day after but nothing severe.  Hope this helps.

  • My advice is have someone go with you for moral support.  I tried to be a big girl and do it on my own, but I wish my husband had been there to hold my hand, literally.  It hurt for about 15 seconds, but it made me cry.  And afterward I had a vasovagal response, which I also had after my HSG.  Google it if you don't know what it is, because it is pretty common I hear.

The good thing is how quickly it is over and no residual pain afterward!

  • I took 3 advil about an hour beforehand.  It was still a bit painful, but only for a faction of a second, then it was over.  I was just a little crampy afterwards and had some spotting, but nothing close to my normal AF cramps.

Good luck with the testing.  Mine showed evidence of polyps, so I have a hysteroscopy schedule for the 18th to remove the polyps.
