Looking into Daycare Options

I am not sure yet what we are going to do yet for daycare. I am a nurse so I work 3 12-hr shifts a week and might have the option (slim chance) of working weekends only. So I could be home during the week and DH could be home on the weekends and we won't need anything but just in case.... we are looking into daycare options. The hospital I work for has a center, but they also have a 1.5-2yr waiting list! MIL is retired but lives a hour away so family's not an option. If you have a great day care or know of one let me know! FYI We work downtown but will live in the Olathe area (when are house finally sells!)

Re: Looking into Daycare Options

  • Since many places do not offer part time care for infants and paying full time prices for two when it is not needed was not something we could do, we hired a nanny. I work 8-5, but dh doesn't have to be into work until 1:30 and has rotating days off. We found someone off care.com and she is wonderful. Most weeks we only have her 3 days a week for 15 hours a week (my MIL comes two days a week). I love it that we have someone who comes to our home to care for our girls, is willing to work with our/dh's crazy schedule and  is wonderful with our girls. Good luck with your search.

  • Hi there! I am guessing you are referring to Children's Mercy. They have a REALLY long waiting list but it does move fast sometimes...I know they just had a big push of new babies coming in. Anyway....I got my little one into Research Hospitals center. It is run by the same company at Childrens (Bright Horizons) and they offer part-time care. They are open from 6:15am to 7:15pm. So they have pretty good hours. We are super happy we got in. They are clean, nice, and they are very into developmental milestones. I would give them a call. You can always stay on your wait list at your hospital and then switch when it becomes available. The research center was hesitant to really tell me if I was going to get in...but I got on their list around the same time you will and he will be starting Jan 18th. Goodluck!
  • I work downtown and several of my co-workers take their babies/kids to the childcare facility at the Federal Building. They all have great things to say about it. I would have taken our DS there, but my husband works in JoCo. So we wanted somewhere that was convenient for both of us. I would strongly suggest that you check out the Federal Building. I think they have a waiting list, but don't let that deter you. Good luck!
