You should be able to turn off the email notifications under the group page.

go to my profile, update my profile, mail preferences, disable notifications.

Then go to groups, then click on preferences (it's under start an exchange) and then click do not send email notifications, do not send birthday reminders

and then hit save.

Geeze, I was doing it manually with each discussion, that's much faster.

 

Of course, I was also about to go absolutely BSC because I couldn't figure out how to merge the two exchanges into my existing account. I finally found it.
