I'm wondering if you all wait to give your child, say, "12+ month" toys until they're really 12 months old. I realize the child may not be developmentally ready for some toys or that there could be safety issues with some toys, but it seems like if something is safe for a 12+ month old it would often also be safe for, say a 9 or 10 month old, no? (I mean, they're both going to stick things in their mouths, and neither one would have small pieces).
Just wondering about this as I choose Christmas gifts for DS. I already ordered him one thing that is 18+ months-- a Sesame Street toy remote control, b/c he always wants to grab our remote control. I may wait on that, but I'm getting him mostly 12+ month toys and I think they'll be fine.
Re: Do you always wait until minimum age limits on toys?
Ha! No way
Guess I'm a bad mommy
I think they put those age "recommendations" on there for safety reasons and for liability reasons.
I feel like all of DS's toys are "older." I do watch for little pieces and such, but other things are fine to give them earlier.
I know the remote you are talking about and we gave it to DS before he even turned one
I know the remote you're talking about too, and DS has had it since he was younger than 6 months old. It is wonderful! I bought another one yesterday for a friend who just had a little boy.

Nah, I just use good judgment. bought him a little truck that is for 1-3, but figure he can use it as it doesn't have small parts and it is small for his little hands - and he was playing with a neighbor's truck last night.
