Wax before labor or not to wax

I normally get brazillian waxs but i havent had one since month 4th. I am wondering should i wax down there. Will it make it harder when my doctor sews me back up or easier because she can see better.  If i wait to 2 months after i have the baby want i still be sensative down there?Any experience with this or your plans is appreciated

  • Great question . . .i am interested in what people say, too!

  • I'm still shaving. I've never had a wax. My hospital said to stop all "maintenance" at 32 weeks. I don't think so! I refuse to look like chubaka down there! I would say do it!
  • I think it would be a waste of $$ to wax for L & D.  I know for certain they can deal with hair at the hospital even if they have to shave it.  I'm not so sure how being sensitive from recent wax might impact you but I don't see any benefit to it.

When I wax its for my DH and/or bikini season.  This fits into neither.

I'm not sure what waiting 2 months has to do with it, if you are into waxing surely you would be in need of another before 2 months time?

I agree!  There is no way I would risk getting a wax and it causing more pain during labor.  I do use a trimmer and keep if very short down there, but I couldn't get a wax.  Then again I have never had one, so take it for what it is worth.  But why take the chance?  You are going to be in so much pain from labor that I wouldn't want to take a chance.

  • I am not waxing before labor.  I am specifically skipping it.  You are supposed to have hair there, it doesn't get in the way, it isn't unsanitary.  I don't want to wax because with the healing taking place, I don't want the hair growing in with it.  I always think that itches and ANY extra potential irritation down there is not something I am willing to chance.
  • I would get waxed before, if you don't and they need to shave you and you've been waxing for a while, the hair growing back will drive you insane!

  • I think as far the doc is concerned it won't make a huge diff but it may be easier to keep clean afterwards for you. Plus it will just feel better to have it done IMO and I've heard the actual act of getting waxed can bring on labor!
  • i'm all for grooming, but ugh...think of the pain of healing your lady parts from labor and then add the discomfort of new hair growing in!
  • I am going to try to get a regular wax. I say "try" because I get lightheaded really quickly when I lay down, so I need to call and see if there's any way they can still do it. Personally, I could care less what the MW thinks. I remember with my first all the PP bleeding and stuff and it seems like it would be easier to keep things clean down there. I have read that you shouldn't get a brazilian while PG because of the risk of infection.

  • I, like you, am an avid waxer. I cant shave down there because I get razor burn crazy bad.  I plan to wax throughout pregnancy and will be getting waxed up until I deliver. I dont believe that having been waxed prior to delivery will cause additional discomfort during labor...whoever said that clearly has never been waxed.

Ive waxed a couple times since getting pregnant and while I am more sensitive and more likely to bleed a little from the hair being removed I havent had any other issues with it. I would go ahead and get waxed and be ready for when the big event comes. :)

  • I got waxed right  before labor and had no problems.

I wouldn't have thought of this!! I'm planning to get waxed around 36 weeks, so I will have hair when I deliver, just not a ton. I can't see to maintain myself. My last wax was about 6 weeks ago.

  • If you have reguarly been waxed, I would continue to go. I dont think someone shoudl try it out for the first time right before their due date, because the first time you can have a lot of irritation. I go regularly & had my last appt around 37 weeks. I do it for myself and feel much more comfortable without hair. I couldnt imagine healing after delivery & have a huge bush. It would drive me insane.

Some obs will ask you to "groom" prior to delivery. It happened to my sister & I would've been mortified if someone said that to me..

  • I get a brazilian every 4 weeks, that has not changed becuase I am pg. So yes, I will be waxed before labor.

  • I get waxed regularly and will continue to do so. I would not be happy if the hospital had to shave me for some reason - ugh razor burn would be the for sure result for me.  I wouldn't start waxing just for L&D, but if you used to go I don't see why you would stop.

I mentioned that it increases sensitivity. Anytime you rip hair out of your skin it will be more sensitive.  I have had many waxes before but I have not delivered a baby before so I'm not claiming to have any idea of the impacts (if any).

I just think its a stupid to spend time and money on waxing, pedicures and such when there are far more important things to be concerned about.
